Windows networking across the WinGate VPN
Browsing Windows network resources across the VPN has been designed to be as efficient as possible. However there are a few things you should be aware of to ensure smooth and efficient browsing.
- If you are attempting to access VPN Participant resources on a remote network, then that VPN Participant must have the correct routing set up in order to respond to the resource request from across the VPN. (i.e. it must know how to respond to the request and send data back across the VPN)
- If you are attempting to access VPN Participant resources on a remote network that is an Active Directory, then you must be able to reach the domain controller who controls the resources for the domain. Similarly, the domain controller in the Active Directory must know the route back to the other side of the VPN in order to respond.
- If the networks behind each VPN Node involved in the VPN use UDP broadcasts to advertise network resources via NetBIOS, then you should enable UDP broadcast relaying in the ExtendedNetworking Service on each WinGate VPN Node machine. The NetBIOS Name service (UDP 137) and the NetBIOS Datagram service (UDP 138) are enabled by default to facilitate NetBIOS functionality.
