Categories
Web Access Control in WinGate allows you to group web sites and URLs that are requested by WinGate clients, into specific content categories for easy management and control.
Categories can be created in several ways :
- Installing a content classification plugin such as PureSight for WinGate, which provides a range of preconfigured categories.
- Manually adding a category on the Categories panel, located at Web Access Control > Categories in the WinGate Management console.
- Adding a category while creating access rules.

Category Classification
You can manually classify which category URLs and sites belong to, by using the built in Manual classifier provided by WinGate. Alternatively, if you have the optional PureSight for WinGate plugin installed, then this can provide automatic classification of a URL or web page whenever it is requested by a user.
Once a URL has been classified in a particular category, you can apply access rules based around that category to determine what access a user will have when they request those types of sites and URLs.

Child categories
WinGate allows you to create child categories within existing categories for refined access rules if required. Access rules can be set on either parent categories or child categories (or both).
Categories panel
The Categories panel, located at Web Access Control > Categories in the WinGate Management console, displays all the categories that have currently been created or provided by content classification plugins you have installed (such as PureSight for WinGate).
You can add new categories (and child categories) as you need from this panel. Once created, they will be available for selection when you are configuring access rules or using the manual classifier to define which categories particular web sites and URLs belong to.
