Creating categories

Categories for Web Access Control in WinGate can be created in numerous ways:

  1. Installing a content classification plugin such as PureSight for WinGate, which provides a range of preconfigured categories.
  2. Manually adding a category on the Categories panel, located at Web Access Control > Categories in the WinGate Management console.
  3. Adding a category while creating access rules.

To create a category manually on the Categories panel:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Web Access Control > Categories.
  3. On the Categories panel, select either Add Category or Add child category (if you wish to make a sub category under an existing category). This will open the Enter Category Details dialog.
  4. If you are creating a child category, you can select the options button beside the Parent category field to choose which parent category it should be under.
  5. In the Name field, enter a suitable name to identify the category.
  6. Click OK to exit. The new category will now be listed on the Categories panel, and will be available for selection when you are creating access rules, or classifying a web site or URL with the Manual Classifier.
