Run process

The Run process event processor allows you run a selected program executable when a particular event takes place.

Using this event processor provides great administrative power to any event response. A selected application process can be activated when a particular event takes place, allowing you to run anything from a batch file or command line, to a full featured monitoring program if required.

To use the Run process event processor:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Control Panel > Events.
  3. On the Events panel, right click on the registered event that you want to specify processing for, and select Specify processing to open the Specify event processing dialog.
  4. Click the Add button to open the Add Event Processing System dialog, where all of the available event processors will be listed.
  5. Select the Run process option to open the Run Process properties.
  6. In the Commandline field, enter any required switch for the executable when it is run. You can insert event data values at required positions by clicking the Insert symbol button to the right of the Commandline field, and selecting the required event data parameter that you wish to use from the Symbol Browser.
  7. In the Start folder field, enter the full path to the executable that you wish to run.
  8. In the Options section, check which options you require to control how the process will execute. The Wait for process to terminate, and Kill process if wait times out options are selected by default to ensure that when the process is finished running it will terminate gracefully and not hang. Hence there is a 2 minute wait after the process has indicated that it will terminate, before WinGate will forcibly kill the process. This time out can be adjusted as required.
  9. In the Advanced section, select the Run process as user checkbox if you want the process to run under a particular user account. Click the input button to the right of this option, to open the Search for Users and groups dialog so you can select the appropriate user account the process will be run under. This will also require you to enter the appropriate user password in the Password field.
  10. Click OK to return to the Specify Event processing dialog, where the Run process event processor will be listed.
  11. If there is more then one event processor configured to respond to the event, then you can use the arrow to define the order that the configured event processors will be actioned whenever the event takes place. When there is more then one event processor configured, the order of processing is also displayed in the Event processing pane on the Events panel.
