The most common use for the Notifications system is to create a scheduled plan of notification events (usually emails) that will be executed when an incident is reported. When you create a notification event it is registered with the WinGate Events system, and is made available to the different WinGate event processors to handle whenever they are executed as part of the plan. The Send Mail event processor allows you to define and send an email when each notification event takes place.
The Send Mail event processor allows you to populate the email with all of the details that should be sent to the person being notified. Using the Insert Symbol button, you can add relevant pieces of data available into the body of the email, to construct a comprehensive and detailed notification style email.
e.g. Plan in use: {{Incident.Plan}}
You can also create email notifications by using the WinGate Policy system to create a policy that will processed by the occurrence of a notification event. The WinGate Policy system provides the Send Email policy item, which can be configured to send a notification email when the notification event takes place as part of a notification plan.
Using the Policy system to process notification events allows several other advantages:
Since notification events are deemed to be compatible, it is possible to create a single policy that will be processed when any of the notification events in a plan are triggered.
Stand down email notifications
When you use the Symbol Browser to place relevant data in each email, it allows you to create an email that will be populated with the latest data available whenever it is sent. This is perfect for creating stand down email notifications.
