Notification events
The non descript notification events you create inside a notification plan are registered with the Events system in WinGate. Like other registered events throughout WinGate, they are made available to the various WinGate event processors to respond to when the event happens as part of a notification plan. This allows you use to use features and capabilities of an event processor to provide the detail of what should happen when each event is executed as part of a plan.
Note
Like other events, each event processor must be configured to respond to the occurrence of notification event. Until it is, nothing will actually happen when the notification event is triggered as part of the notification plan schedule.
Compatible events
All of the notification events you create in a notification plan are deemed to be compatible events in WinGate. This means that when you are setting the WinGate Policy system to respond to a notification event, you are able to configure all of these compatible notification events in the one policy (as shown in the example below).
The Policy system has many useful tools to determine what should happen when a notification event occurs as part of a notification plan. The Policy system could be made to analyze conditions at the time that notification event is triggered, and perform a variety of actions depending on those conditions. This could include using the Run SQL statement policy item to record information about the incident that triggered the notification plan to a database, or using the Service Control policy item to stop or start a service.
Email notifications
If you simply want to send email notifications, you can use the Send Mail event processor to send an email whenever the notification event is triggered as part of the notification plan.
