Types of permissions
The Permissions system in WinGate uses a set of permissions that can be applied to most registered permission objects. Similar to file system permissions, WinGate provides Read, Modify, Full Control, and Delete permissions that can be set for users and groups on permission objects.
Full Control
This permission allows full and unrestricted access to a permission object (and its associated feature or dialog within a module).
Read
This allows a user or group to view or access a particular feature of the permission object. This is the minimum permission users require in a module parent container, to view and access child permission objects registered by the module.
Modify
This permission allows users to change the settings of a particular permission object. This does not mean that a user can disable or delete the feature of the particular permission object, but is usually applicable to dialogs and user interfaces (registered as permission objects) which have settings that can be changed.
Delete
This permission allows users to delete the particular object in WinGate that registered itself as a permission object. This type of permission is usually available on objects in WinGate created by users. These are child permission objects for such things as certificates, user defined configurations (VPN, policies etc.) where they are superfluous to the actual operation of the module.
Create children
Available on parent permission containers, this permission allows users to create children inside the parent container. This generally means that users can create objects inside the particular module, or feature set of the module that has registered the relevant parent container.
For example the Policy module container has a Create children permission which would allow the chosen user or group to create new policies.
Note
The availability of these permissions is entirely dependent on the nature and context of the permission object where they are being set.
Custom permissions
When a module registers a permission object (either a parent container or a child permission object) the item can often have customized permissions that can be applied.

For example the VPN module parent container has the Modify local settings, Create a VPN, and the Connect/Disconnect permissions available.
For individual descriptions of custom permission objects, please refer to the Permissions objects section (when applicable) of the relevant helpfile for the module.
