Parent container permissions
Parent containers allow you to set permissions that will apply explicitly to the parent container, and permissions that will apply explicitly to the children permission objects (including other sub level parents) in that container.
Note
Setting explicit access permissions for the parent container, will affect whether a user is able to access the child permission features it contains, when they are in the WinGate Management console. For example, in order to actually see the Dashboard in the Monitoring section of the WinGate Management console, a user will require the minimum of a Read permission in the Dashboard parent container.
Setting explicit permissions for the parent container:
- Open the WinGate Management console.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Permissions panel.
- Select the appropriate parent container where you want to set permissions. This will open the containers Permissions dialog.
- If you do not want to use any inherited permissions given to this parent container from upper level parents, then deselect the Include inheritable permissions from parent option. This will clear all currently set permissions.
- Click the Add button to select the user or group that the permissions will apply to.
- In the Permissions pane, select either the Allow or Deny check box for the permissions with This listed in the Applies to column.
Setting explicit permissions for children in a parent container:
When you are setting explicit permissions that will apply to children in a parent container, these permissions will override any inherited permissions the child permission objects have received through propagated inheritance.
- Open the WinGate Management console.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Permissions panel.
- Select the appropriate parent container that contains the child permission objects that you wish to set permissions on. This will open the parent containers permissions dialog.
- Click the Add button to select the user or group that the permissions will apply to.
- In the permissions pane, select either the Allow or Deny check box for the permissions with Children listed in the Applies to column.
These permissions will always be applied to children in the container, unless a child permission object has been specifically configured otherwise (i.e. The child permission object has the Include inheritable permissions from parent option switched off and has had different permissions manually set).
