The Web Activity tab of the Timeline settings allows you to configure the default expiry time for web activity on the Timeline. You can also specify which particular MIME types will trigger the tracking of web activity by the Timeline system, including setting advanced options for how particular sites should be handled by the Timeline when they are visited by users.
When a user first makes a request to a new site, an activity bar is created on the Timeline to indicate their visit. This setting determines how long WinGate will wait for further requests from that user to that site, before it deems that they have finished their visit.
If the inactivity time is reached (i.e. there are no more requests to that site by the user within that period) then WinGate will stop the growth of the associated activity bar on the Timeline, and change its color to the inactive color as set on the Appearance tab.
Merge similar domains
This option (checked by default) will cause the web activity from URLs that contain a similar domain, to be merged as one line of activity on the Timeline. The Timeline defines a similar domain as the section of a URL, immediately preceding a top level domain identifier.
e.g. wingate.com, sales.wingate.com, marketing.wingate.com are all considered to be from the wingate.com domain.
Selecting the Triggers... button will open the MIME Types dialog where you can configure which MIME types will trigger the tracking of web activity by the Timeline. By default the text/html MIME type is listed to allow for the tracking of web page activity.
The Site Definitions button allow you to categorize URLs into particular sites for the purpose of tracking web activity. Clicking the Site Definitions button will open the Custom Site Definitions dialog, where you can create sites to manage how particular URLs that users visit will be handled by the Timeline.
Each site can be then used to manage multiple URLs when you are setting advanced options for the tracking of web activity.
You can use the WinGate wildcards of ?(question mark) and *(asterisk) to broaden the scope of URLs that will be included in the site.
Using a ?(question mark) in a URL name will match any single character in the position where it is placed. e.g. ?ingate.com will match any site that begins with a valid character and is immediately followed by "ingate.com", such as wingate.com, lingate.com, ringate.com
Using an *(asterisk) will match one or more characters in the position that it is placed in the site name. e.g. wingate.* will match any URL that begins with "wingate." and is followed by 1 or more valid characters, such as wingate.com, wingate.net, wingate.org.nz, wingate.it.
Advanced tracking options for particular URLs, and sites you have created, can be configured when you click the Advanced button on the Web Activity tab (See below).
The Advanced... button on the Web Activity tab of the Timeline Settings allows you to set how the Timeline will handle particular URLs, or groups of URLs that have been configured into a site (via the Site Definitions button).
The Site/URL that you want to define specially tracking for. You can use the standard WinGate wildcards of ? (question mark) and or *(asterisk) to provide pattern matching capability to the site name.

Track file downloads separately
Enabled by default, this option will cause items downloaded by users over HTTP to be displayed as a new activity bar (Separate from the initial activity bar created when they access the site/page with the download link).
Selecting the Triggers... button will open the MIME Types dialog where you can configure which MIME types will trigger their tracking in the Timeline as downloaded items. The most common MIME types are listed by default.
