Using certificates
Once you create a certificate on the Certificates Panel, it can then be used by WinGate to help secure its communications and confirm its identity to clients who connect to it for service. Certificates can be used in two places in WinGate operations:
-
Bindings on network services that use TLS or SSL connections
Network services in WinGate use network connections on the WinGate server to listen for and respond to client requests. Configuring a WinGate network service to use a certain network connection on the WinGate server, is known as binding the network interface to the service.
Each network service has a Bindings configuration where you can set which network connections the service will use. When configuring bindings, you can specify that SSL should be used for all communication to the service, and you will be asked to select a suitable certificate that should be used.
-
Hosting a WinGate VPN
Whenever you create a hosted VPN using the WinGate VPN software module, you will be required to create or specify a certificate that should be used by the WinGate VPN. If you specify want to create a certificate during the configuration of a Hosted VPN, then you will be able to open and use the Create Certificate dialog from within the VPN configuration to allow for this.
Please refer to WinGate VPN help for configuring a hosted VPN.
