Credentials settings

On the Credential rules panel, you can configure the default settings for how WinGate will handle a users existing credentials, when all connections from that machine have been closed. This includes the length of time those credentials will be cached by WinGate before being discarded, and what status the credentials will be set to during this period. The default action is to do nothing with the credentials status for 30 seconds (before discarding).

Note

These default credentials settings can be overridden in each credential rule you create. The options are identical in both the overall credentials settings, and the When all connections from a computer are closed overrides section found in each credential rule.

To configure the default settings for all credential management by WinGate:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Control Panel > Credential rules.
  3. On the Tasks menu select Settings to open the Credentials settings dialog.
  4. In the Discard cached credentials after: field, enter the amount of time in seconds that WinGate will cache credentials for, before discarding them completely.
  5. From the drop down menu, select what will WinGate will do with the current user credentials when all the connections from that computer are closed. The options are Downgrade credentials to assumed, Leave credentials intact, Downgrade credentials to unknown user. This credential adjustment will last for the period defined in the Discard cached credentials after: field (mentioned in step 4). After this period, the cached credentials will be discarded.
  6. Click OK to save changes and return to the Credential rules panel.
