Creating credential rules
WinGate allows you to create credential rules for any client computer that needs credentials management on the LAN. Credential rules can be created and managed from the Credential rules panel, located at Control Panel > Credential rules in the WinGate Management console.
You can create credential rules for:
-
Assumed users
Have WinGate assume that connections from a particular machine will always be made by a particular user.
-
Multi-user machines
When there is a multi-user machine on the network (e.g. terminal server) and you want to handle each users session individually through WinGate.
License restriction: The multi-user machines credential rules feature is only available when using a WinGate Enterprise license.
Rule matching
When you create a credential rule, you are required to set the criteria that the connecting machine must match for the rule to be applied. This can either be a IP address, Computername, or Physical address (MAC).
Overriding Credential settings
In each credential rule, you can override the default settings for how WinGate will handle existing user credentials after all connections from that machine have been closed. The default credentials settings can be set in the Credential rules panel, and apply to all computers that make connections to and through WinGate.
If you wish to override these default settings within a credential rule, you can tailor how WinGate will cache and adjust current user credentials when all connections are closed from the particular machine affected by the rule.
