Monitoring data

WinGate allows you to monitor the changes in selected pieces of data available to WinGate. Different data sources in WinGate will publish what pieces of data they have available to be monitored to the Monitoring tab of the Data panel, located at Control Panel > Data in the WinGate Management console.

There are two types of data that can be made available for monitoring.

  1. WinGate data

Each of the different data sources in WinGate will publish a list of their data that can be monitored with the Data system.

  2. Performance counters - Windows operating systems

You can set WinGate to monitor data provided by the operating system. Using the Windows performance counters, WinGate can be set to monitor specific values on the machine on which it is installed, or those from another Windows system located on the local network.

License restriction: Performance counters are only available when using a WinGate Enterprise license.

Monitored data is made available to WinGate services and components to access and refer to just like global data items. For example, in the Policy system and various WinGate script systems, you can have a policy or script check the value of a piece of monitored data in order to determine the evaluation path it will take.

Threshold checking

When data is being monitored, you can also set threshold values (both upper and lower) that if reached, can trigger the execution of a specified notification plan within the WinGate Notifications system. This is useful when you want to set thresholds for monitored data should that not be exceeded, but if they are, then some person should be notified or WinGate should take an appropriate course of action.
