Threshold checking
License restriction: Threshold checking of monitored data is only available when using a WinGate Enterprise license.
Threshold checking on monitored data is useful if you require someone to be notified when a monitored data value exceeds (or falls below) a critical level during WinGate operations. When configuring a piece of data to be monitored, you can optionally set threshold values (upper, lower, or both) for the monitored data.
Each threshold you set can be configured to report an incident to the WinGate Notifications system if the monitored data exceeds the value. This incident can then have the Notifications system execute a suitable notification plan.
You can configure a different incident report and notification plan for each threshold value you set. This provides a powerful tool when you need be alerted to undesirable behavior in the data being monitored, or execute a suitable plan if the monitored data reaches undesirable values.
To set threshold checking on a piece of monitored data:
- Open the WinGate Management console.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Data.
- On the Monitoring tab, double click on the monitored piece of data you wish to set a threshold value for. This will open the Monitoring properties for the selected data.
- Choose which type of threshold will be checked. You can select any combination of threshold types, and configure individual threshold settings for each type. This allows you to specify different incidents for each threshold type (As explained below). Select the Upper or Lower value button of the desired type of threshold check to open the Check thresholds dialog.
- On the Check thresholds dialog, select the Trigger incident if value is outside checkbox and enter a suitable value for the threshold.
- In the Message box, enter an appropriate message that will be logged against this incident when it triggers the notification plan. This message will be displayed in the Log pane at the bottom of the Notifications panel, located at Monitoring > Notifications in the WinGate Management console. You can use the Insert Symbol
button to open the Symbol browser and include any relevant data that is available into the body message.
- Select the Cancel incident if value comes within option if you wish to set a value that the monitored data can return to, which will close the incident with the Notifications system. This an optional setting.
- Click OK to close the Monitoring properties.
