Credential rules - Assumed users
When creating a credential rule, WinGate allows you to select an assumed user that will always be associated with a particular computer. Assumed users can be chosen from the user database selected by WinGate, and are useful when you don't require users to authenticate themselves, but still want to have WinGate associate connections from a particular machine with a particular user.
To create an assumed user credential rule:
- Open the WinGate Management console.
- Navigate to Control Panel > Credential rules.
- In the Tasks menu select Add new rule. This will open the Credentials rule dialog.
-
In the Apply this rule if drop down menu, select the criteria that the client machine must match for the rule to be implemented. This is either IP address, ComputerName, or Physical address (MAC).
Note
When entering a Physical address, enter it in space delimited format without hyphens or colon separators (e.g. XX XX XX XX XX XX ).
- Select the Assume user to be checkbox. Click the Options button
to the right of this field to open the Search for users dialog, so you can select a suitable user in the user database being used by WinGate.
- Select the Treat assumed user as authenticated option if you want WinGate to think that the assumed user has been authenticated, without them actually requiring to do so. Authentication can often be required in policies or Web Access Control rules.
- Configure any other settings you require for the credential rule and click OK.
The new credential rule will be displayed in the Credential rules panel, and will be applied whenever users make connections from the machine matched in the rule.
