Mailbox volumes

All mailboxes hosted by WinGate are now stored in a mailbox volume to allow for easier maintenance and management. The volume will increase in size depending on the amount of mail delivered to all the mailboxes in the volume. When using a WinGate Enterprise license, you can create as many mailbox volumes as you need in any desired location on disk.

Mailbox volumes allow you to:

  • Move existing mailboxes in one volume easily into another from the Mailboxes tab. This is useful for managing the location of particular mailboxes from one disk to another, or simply reassigning mailboxes to a particular volume.
  • Create new mailbox volumes for space accommodation. When the mailboxes on the old volume out grow the original capacity of the disk they're located on, then they can be easily moved to a new volume with more space.
  • Using more then one mailbox volume for easy mailbox management and sorting.
License restriction:

The use of multiple mailbox volumes is only available with a WinGate Enterprise license. When using any other type of WinGate license, you can still create more then one mailbox volume, but only the volume set as the default will be able to be used (i.e. Receive mail for the mailboxes it contains).

Accessing mail volumes

Mailbox volumes can be created and edited on the Mailboxes tab, located at Monitoring > Email of the WinGate Management console. From here you can perform any mailbox volume management you require. A single mail volume is created by default to accommodate WinGate mailboxes after installation. This volume can be edited or deleted if required.

To create a volume:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Monitoring > Email. Select the Mailboxes tab.
  3. On the Tasks menu of the Navigation panel select Add volume. This will open the location dialog where the new volume will be stored. Once you have selected a name and location click OK to return to the Mailboxes tab.
  4. The new volume will appear on the Mailboxes tab.

Default volumes

Each volume you create will display its size and the amount of mailboxes it contains. You can set which volume is the default volume, by right clicking on the desired volume and selecting Set as default from the context menu.

Setting a volume to the default means that any new mailboxes that are created in WinGate, will be placed automatically into that volume.

Moving mailboxes

Mailboxes can be easily transferred amongst mail volumes as required.

To move a mailbox:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Monitoring > Email. Select the Mailboxes tab.
  3. In the Mailboxes list pane, right click on the mailbox you wish to move, and click Move to Volume. This will open the Move to Volume dialog.
  4. Select from the list, the volume where you wish to move the mailbox to.
  5. The mailbox will now list the volume where it has been moved to under the Volume column in the Mailboxes tab.
