IP Blackhole
The IP Blackhole tab in the Extended Network Driver properties enables you to ban particular IPs from entering your network.
Enable IP Blackhole list
This setting will enable WinGate to use and block IP addresses on this list. The IP Blackhole list is enabled by default.
Adding IP addresses to the Blackhole list
You can add banned IP addresses to the Blackhole list in two ways:
-
By clicking Add in the IP Blackhole tab in the Extended Network Driver properties, then manually entering the IP you want to ban (add to the Blackhole list). You can also Delete IP addresses from the Blackhole list in the same way when required.
Ban a range of IP addresses
You may also add entire ranges of IP addresses to your Blackhole list. Entire IP address ranges can be added by specifying the IP address range network (with a zero in the appropriate octets) and then specifying an appropriate subnet mask that will encompass the range.
For example the top entry on the IP Blackhole list example above has been entered as:
210.55.214.0 Mask 255.255.255.0
In IP address ANDing this means that all IP addresses that begin with 210.55.214. (210.55.214.1, 210.55.214.2 etc.) will be blocked by WinGate.
By locating the IP address you want to ban in the WinGate Management console.
On in the Activity panel located at Monitoring > Activity in the WinGate Management console, you can right click on any IP address entry as it appears, and select Blackhole IP... from the menu. This will automatically add the IP address to the Blackhole list.
Note
The Enable IP Blackhole list checkbox on the IP Blackhole tab must be checked to make the ENS driver check for these IP addresses. Failure to do so will mean that these IP addresses will still be allowed onto your network.
You should be careful not to ban any of your networks own IPs.
