Sources

Each module or component in WinGate that is capable of providing logging information, will register itself as a source to the WinGate Logging system. For easy access and management, all registered sources of logging information are listed on the Sources tab of the Logging panel, located at Control Panel > Logging in the WinGate Management console.

Source settings

The Source Settings for each registered logging source allow you to set what level of information it will provide to a log, and which log it will supply the information to. The settings for each source can be accessed by opening the relevant source from the Sources tab on the Logging panel. Or alternatively they can be found on the Logging tab available from the sources own WinGate configuration.

Log events for this source

This check box determines whether the source will provide information to any log. Deselecting this option will stop the logging of any information from this source.

Log level

This menu allows you to determine how much information the source should provide to the log and resultant log file.

Log

In this section you can choose which log the source will provide information to. Each log can receive information from numerous different sources, if a source has been configured to supply its information to that particular log. This allows you to have a log generate a log file that contains information from only the sources you require.

Clicking the Settings button will open the Log settings where you can set the name, field format, and location of the log file that will be created by the log the source is supplying information to.

<Default> source

To help manage the default settings for all diagnostic sources, WinGate provides the <Default> source. Although it isnt an actual logging source, the <Default> source provides an easy way to change the default log that all diagnostic sources will contribute their information to (usually the Global logfile), and allows you to set the level of information they will provide (log level) initially.
