Log roll over

All log files will be rolled over for archiving according to the Log Roll Over Schedule scheduled event which can be set in the Logging Settings. For ease of management and size, all log files are set to be rolled over at 12.00 a.m. each day. This schedule can be altered as required by configuring the Log Roll Over Schedule scheduled event on the Scheduled Events panel, located at Control Panel > Scheduled events in the WinGate Management console.

(For more information on configuring a scheduled event please refer to the Scheduled events helpfile).

Older log files will remain on the disk for the number of days specified in the Log Files Cleanup found in the Logging Settings. They can be viewed from the Log Files viewer on the Log File tab of the Logging panel, or you can open each log file manually with a suitable viewer at the saved location.

To configure the Log Roll Over Schedule:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Control Panel > Logging.
  3. From Tasks menu, select Settings to open the Logging Settings.
  4. In the Logs Roll Over Schedule section, click the Option button to open up the Log Roll Over Schedule scheduled event.
  5. Configure the schedule that you require for the logs to be rolled over.
  6. Click OK to apply the changes and return to the Logging settings. All logs will now be rolled over according to the schedule you have set.

Manual roll over

You can also perform a roll over of all log files manually by creating a switch on the WinGate dashboard. Since scheduled events are available to be executed by switches on the WinGate dashboard, you could create a switch to execute the Log Roll Over Schedule scheduled event whenever it is pressed. This creates an easy way of executing a log roll over when you require it outside the normal scheduled time.

Please refer to the Dashboard help for more information on creating switches on the dashboard.
