The General tab of the WinGate specific properties for each network interface, lets you manually configure what type of usage classification will be set by WinGate for the network connection.
The classification in the What type of network does this adapter connect to? section, is used by WinGate for a wide range of purposes during its operation. Primarily, it is used to determine how WinGate will handle traffic to and from this connection.
WinGate will automatically classify the network interface as soon as it becomes available in the operating system and so will be set to Auto detect by default. The General tab allows you to manually set the classification if required.
