As part of configuring bandwidth control, you are required to define what restriction will placed on particular types of traffic as it passes through WinGate.
Using the Restrictions configuration on the Bandwidth Control tab, you can create a range of different bandwidth restrictions to meet your requirements. Restrictions can be made to restrict traffic to either a percentage of available bandwidth, or to a certain quantity of traffic.
Once created, each restriction will be available to be used by any rules you define on the Rules screen of the Bandwidth Control tab. You can create rules to define what type of traffic a restriction will be imposed on.
On the Restrictions configuration click Add to add a new restriction. This will bring up the Restriction properties.
Enter a name for the restriction. This helps to identify it for selection when creating rules.
The Priority group setting has several important uses:
It sets the processing priority that this particular restriction will have in relation to other bandwidth restrictions that maybe being processed by WinGate at the same time. When a restriction belongs to certain priority group, it is subjected to the Priority Level setting found on the Scheduling configuration of the Bandwidth Control tab.
This is the actual bandwidth restriction which can be:
Percentage of available bandwidth.
Restrict by actual Kilobits.
This will only prioritize traffic according to the Priority group level assigned to the restriction.
Once created, the restriction can be selected for any traffic rules that you may configure. Whenever traffic matches the criteria set in the rule, then the chosen bandwidth restriction will be implemented.
