Results

Result policy items provide you with the ability to configure a suitable outcome(s) for a policy. Result policy items can be configured to provide a different result depending on the evaluation path they will be connected to. Therefore a Result policy item (if required) will always be placed at the end of a flow chart evaluation path in the policy.

Currently there are 5 Result item options available for policies in WinGate:

  1. Allow (return from policy processing and allow the event to continue)
  2. Disconnect (from the client who instigated the event occurring)
  3. Reject (the connection or request from the client sending them an appropriate message)
  4. Auth (force the user to authenticate)
  5. Divert (redirect the connection somewhere else)

Note

  • Result policy item options are dependent on the data capabilities of the source that registered the event the policy is based on. As such, not all Result policy options will be available to be selected when configuring a Result policy item on the policy editor worksheet.

e.g. The WWW Proxy server is able send a message back to the clients browser informing them of the end result, where as a policy based on a Notification event wont have this ability.

  • Not all policies require a Result policy item. Some policies might simply be created to perform a suitable action such as sending an email, or changing a service configuration when an event occurs. In this case you would use an appropriate policy item that performed the required action instead.

To use a Result policy item:

  1. Select or create a policy to open a policy editor.
  2. On the toolbox, select a Result policy item and drag it on to the worksheet. This will automatically open the Result properties.
  3. On the Result item properties, select one of the available result outcomes from the drop down menu.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes and return to the policy editor worksheet.

Responses messages

If you select the Reject option when configuring a Result policy for a policy based on any of the available events for the HTTP (WWW) proxy, you can configure a suitable response message to return to the clients browser:

The Reject Result outcome allows you to customize the message that will be sent back to the client who initiated the request. In the message content you can include relevant event data so the message is more meaningful to the user.

To customize a response:

  1. On the Result item properties, click the Edit button to the right of the MessageContent entry to open the Edit parameter dialog.
  2. In the Edit parameter dialog enter the message you wish to send.

You can insert relevant event data into the Reject response by clicking on the Insert symbol button below the message pane to open the Symbol Browser. From the Symbol Browser select the appropriate data you wish to have displayed to the client in the Reject response. As usual when ever inserting event data using the Symbol Browser, the parsed value of the data will appear in the appropriate location set by the cursor. Ensure that there is suitable spacing on either side the value so it will appear legible amongst any text you may write in the message.

You can use basic Full-Text Searches against the page title and body to find matching articles. Use the following search modifiers to refine your query:

  • event management (no quotes) will find all pages containing the words "event" OR "management"
  • "event management" (with quotes) will find all pages containing the phrase "event management"
  • +event -management will find all pages containing the word "event", AND NOT the word "management"
