Toolbox

The Toolbox contains the policy items that you can use to construct each step that will be processed in the flow chart on the worksheet.

  • Events

All policies in WinGate are based on a selected event(s). The policy editor provides the Event policy item so you can use it to start the flow chart. Since all other policy items in the flow chart will be processed on the occurrence of the event, policy items will always follow in the policy flow.

The event item must be connected as the first policy item in the flow chart for that policy to be processed whenever the event takes place.

  • Items

The Items section of the policy editor toolbox contains all the different policy items that are available for use in this particular policy. The availability of policy items will be dependent on what type of event the policy is based on, and what modules are currently installed to WinGate. These policy items can either be evaluation type policy items, that can make directional decisions for the policy flowchart (based on the current values of available event data) or policy items that perform an action when they are reached and processed in the policy flow.

  • Results

The Result item provides several end point outcomes for policy evaluation. The Result policy item can be set to Allow (return from policy processing and allow the event to continue), Disconnect (from the client who instigated the event occurring), Reject (the connection or request from the client sending them an appropriate message), Auth (force the user to authenticate), or Divert (redirect the connection somewhere else).

Module policy items

WinGate modules and components can register their own policy items with the Policy system when they are installed and loaded in WinGate. As such, the availability of policy items in the toolbox will be dependent on what modules have been installed. Please refer to the Extensions section of other module helpfiles, when wanting to read about what policy items they will register with the Policy system. The Policy system provides a range of default policy items that you can use on the worksheet to create the flow chart.

Adding policy items to the worksheet

To add a policy item to the worksheet, simply drag the desired item from the toolbox onto the worksheet. Placing an item on the worksheet will automatically open its properties so it can be configured. Once the item has been configured, you can connect it into the flow chart as required.

Note

Policy items on the worksheet

Simply dragging policy items on to the worksheet will not create the structure of the policy.

  1. In order for a policy flow chart to be processed it must be connected to the Event Policy item (i.e. the event that the policy is based on must be placed on the worksheet of the policy). Read more about assigning an event to a policy.
  2. Policy items must be connected in a flow chart sequence, from the Event policy item in order for the policy to work. It is possible to place policy items on the worksheet and leave them unattached. However policy items will only be processed when they have been made part of the policy flow chart that includes the Event policy item.

  • event management (no quotes) will find all pages containing the words "event" OR "management"
  • "event management" (with quotes) will find all pages containing the phrase "event management"
  • +event -management will find all pages containing the word "event", AND NOT the word "management"
