Policy editor worksheet

The Policy editor worksheet is where you configure the actual structure and content of a policy.

All policies are built on a flow chart of steps that are processed in logical sequence when the selected event takes place. The worksheet in the policy editor provides a space where you can drag and drop policy items to create the flow chart structure.

For a policy to be processed when a selected event occurs, the policy flow chart must begin with the Event policy item that will trigger the policy.

You can then attach other policy items that the policy should process when the event takes place. The outcome of each decision type item can create alternative evaluation paths the policy processing can take, such as processing an action type policy item, making another decision, or reaching a defined end result. These policy items can be connected by flow arrows depending on the evaluation paths, and end results required.

Zoom control

On the bottom right of the worksheet is the Zoom control which allows you to adjust the viewing aspect of the flow chart. Since policies may contain any number of policy items and become rather complex in their structure, the Zoom control is ideal for allowing a better view of the overall layout of the policy.

Notes panel

The worksheet also includes a Notes panel where you can write a suitable explanation for the purpose and contents of the policy. It comes with a rich text compatible editing menu, so you can choose font style and design.

Adding policy items to the worksheet

Adding policy items to the worksheet is the first part of creating the structure and content of a policy.

You can add policy items to the worksheet in two ways:

  1. In the policy editor:

Select a policy item from the Toolbox or the Library tab and drag it to the worksheet.

  2. From another policy editor:

If you have more then one policy that has been configured around the same type of event, then you are able to swap policy items between these two policies when they are both open. Simply select a policy item on the worksheet of one policy editor and drag it on to the worksheet of the other policy.

Whenever you drag a policy item on to the worksheet, it will always automatically open the properties for that policy item so you can configure the required details. Once each policy item has been set, you can then connect them together to create the flow chart of steps the policy will process when the event occurs.

Note

  • Policy items can be left unattached on the worksheet for future use if required.

  • Policy items on the worksheet will be processed only when they are connected to a flow chart that has been attached to an Event policy item.

  • When you place an Event item on the worksheet, you are assigning the event to that policy. When an event has been assigned to a policy, only that policy will be processed when the selected event takes place.
