User/Group check
The User/Group check policy item can be used to check whether the user associated with the event occurring, is a particular user, or a member of a particular group in the user database used by WinGate. If the user is not any of the users (or a member of any groups) specified in the User/Group check policy item, then the policy item will evaluate to No.
The User/Group check item has been designed to control user access to services, the web etc.
One of the most common uses of the User/Group check is to aid authentication. In order to control user access to the Internet, WinGate must first be able to identify the user who is making the connection. Since a user is always unknown when they initially make a connection through WinGate, there needs to be some way of WinGate distinguishing whether it already knows who is making the connection, or whether the user is unknown and is required to be authenticated. WinGate provides this check through a special group called Authenticated users. When a user is authenticated with WinGate they are placed in this group. You can use policy and the User/Group check policy item to see if the user or associated with the event is a member of Authenticated Users. If they're not, policy can be made to force users to authenticate using a Result policy item set to Auth.
