Telnet Proxy Service
The Telnet Proxy Service provides services to client applications that make Telnet connections on port 23 (TCP) by default.
Service setting | Default values |
---|
Service Port | 23 |
Bindings | Binds to all network interfaces that have been marked as Internal by WinGate |
Registered events | ClientConnect, ClientDisconnect |
Using the Telnet Proxy Service
For clients to use Telnet through the Telnet Proxy Service, they must first telnet to IP address of the WinGate server on the Service port set up for the Telnet Proxy server.
Once connected to the WinGate Telnet service, clients can then issue normal Telnet commands (Open, Close, Status etc.) via their Telnet client software as normal.
Note
The Telnet Proxy server in WinGate has only one primary function - to connect clients to a real telnet server. Clients can only connect to the Telnet Proxy service in WinGate via Telnet for this purpose, WinGate does not respond to any other normal Telnet commands.
If you are always telnetting to the same host, you could use a mapped link instead - this will bypass having to type the host name in each time since you need only Telnet to WinGate on the mapping port and WinGate will allow full telnet option negotiation.
