GDP Service
The GDP Service is used by client machines running the WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) who are trying to locate the WinGate server on the LAN. When running the WGIC, the client will broadcast a discovery request to try and find the location of the WinGate server on the network using GDP (Generic Discovery Protocol).
The GDP Service is only required when you have installed the Winsock Redirector Service to support WGIC users.
GDP is a protocol that was developed by Qbik New Zealand for discovering Internet connectivity servers such as WinGate. The GDP Service can be left unattended since it is designed to be fully automatic from installation.
Setting | Default value | Service Port | 368 Unlike other network services, the service port for the GDP service cannot be changed. |
Bindings | The GDP Service will automatically bind to any network interfaces that have their usage marked as Internal by WinGate since these types of interfaces are considered to be connected to the local trusted network. This allows the GDP Service to listen immediately for WGIC discovery requests on this interface and Service port 368 without any further configuration. |
Registered events | No events are registered by the GDP Service with the Events system. |
Note
- Only one GDP Service can be installed in WinGate at anytime. Once installed it can be stopped or disabled if required.
- GDP is required for the WGIC clients to automatically find WinGate servers.
- GDP should only be bound to your internal LAN network adapter(s).
- Generic Discovery Protocol is sometimes called Gateway Discovery Protocol.
