POP3 Server
The POP3 Server is designed to listen for clients attempting to retrieve mail from their WinGate mailbox using the POP3 protocol. As such its installation is only required when you wish to allow users of WinGate Mail to access their mailbox with a POP3 client.
Setting | Default value | Service Port | 110 |
Bindings | The POP3 Server will automatically bind to any network interfaces that have their usage marked as Internal by WinGate. |
Registered events | ClientConnect, ClientDisconnect |
If WinGate clients wish to retrieve mail from a remote POP3 server, clients can use any of the WinGate client connection methods to gain appropriate access to the Internet. WinGate provides the POP3 Proxy service to help with remote POP3 mail retrieval for clients who have their email applications set to use a proxy server.
Note
- The POP3 Server should only be bound to an external interface if mailbox clients from the Internet are collecting their mail using POP3 protocol from WinGate Mail. In most situations the WinGate Mail server is used to receive mail on behalf of clients on the local LAN, and so the POP3 Server will be bound to an internal interface (by default).
- The POP3 Server is set to listen on port 110 by default.
