The Remote Control Service (RCS) listens on behalf of the WinGate Engine, for WinGate Management connections from users logging in to the WinGate Management console. The WinGate Management console communicates over an encrypted TCP/IP link with the WinGate Engine for all configuration, monitoring, and control.
The Remote Control Service is installed by default, and due to its importance cannot be stopped or uninstalled. If for any reason the service becomes corrupted, WinGate will reinstall the service with default settings.
Service settings | Default value |
---|---|
Service Port | 808 This is the port that the RCS will listen for WinGate Management console connections on. This can be changed if required, but is should be noted that users will have to specify the new port as part of their Remote Management login. |
Bindings | The Remote Control service will automatically bind to only the localhost (127.0.0.1) interface to allow it to listen for login connections from the WinGate Management console on the server where WinGate is installed. |
Registered events | ClientConnect, ClientDisconnect |
The default service port is 808 and this is the port on which the RCS listens for WinGate Management connections.
The RCS is used by any client that wishes to authenticate with WinGate, including the WinGate Management console, or any third-party designed applications that use a Qbik-provided DLL for authentication.
The Remote Control Service allows administrators to be able to use the WinGate Management console to log in remotely and configure WinGate. For security, only the localhost address (127.0.0.1) is bound to the service, since it is required to allow you to log in to the WinGate Management console on the WinGate server itself.
For remote access to the WinGate Management console, the interface that you will connect to WinGate on (usually a LAN interface) needs to be bound to the Remote Control Service before you are able to logon.

In the example below the bindings of the Remote Control Service have been set to listen on any adapter marked as Internal by WinGate. This setting allows it to listen for WinGate Management connections on the local network.
While it is possible to bind network adapters marked as External by WinGate to the Remote Control Service, it is not recommended. This is because binding Internet connections (External) will allow anyone to make remote WinGate Management connections to the WinGate server from the Internet. If it is required then you should configure the bindings for the Remote Control Service to use SSL communications for increased security.
