Email list address handlers

When you have configured a domain rule on the Domains tab, you can define settings for any email list address for that domain. This is done by creating an email list address handler for each particular email list address you want to create. This includes the name of the list, its owner, members, and list rules (such as who can post and reply to the list).

Each email list address handler also allows you to set extra restrictions for mail to that email list address. This includes setting whether file attachments are allowed in emails sent to that list address by members, and setting the size limit for any emails destined for that list address.

To create an email list address handler:

  1. Open the WinGate Management console.
  2. Navigate to Monitoring > Email.
  3. On the Domains tab, create a new domain rule, or select an existing one.
  4. With the domain rule highlighted, select New Email List Address Handler from the Tasks menu in the Navigation Panel. Alternatively, right click on the domain rule on the Domains tab and select New Email List Address Handler from the context menu. This will open the Edit email list address handler configuration.
  5. On the General tab enter the relevant details for email list address.
    • Address

The email address for the list.

    • List Name

      The Name of the list.

    • List owner

The email address of the owner of the list. This provides an administrative address where list errors can be sent in the Errors to drop down menu below.

    • Who can post

Set who is allowed to post messages to this list address. This can be the list members only, list owner only, or anyone.

    • Errors to:

This is the address where errors generated by the list. This can be back to the sender, back to the List owner, or to the WinGate postmaster address (as defined on the Delivery tab of the Mail Settings).

    • Replies go

This allows you to select the destination where replies to this list should be sent:

      1. Back to the list

All replies will be sent to all list members.

      2. Back to the sender

This setting means that a reply to a post that has been sent to a mail list, will be sent back to the person who made the original post.

      3. Back to the list owner

All replies made to posts on this mailing list will be sent back to the List owner.

  6. Select the Members tab to add the email address of each member of this list.
  7. Select the Advanced tab to specify additional restrictions for posting to this email list.
  8. Click OK to exit the Email List Address Handler configuration. The new Email List Address Handler will now be listed under the relevant domain rule on the Domains tab.
