Collection
The POP3 Collection service can be used by WinGate Mail in order to collect mail periodically from remote POP3 mailboxes if required. For each remote account, you can then define how the SMTP Delivery service should deliver the mail once it is collected.
All of the remote POP3 accounts that you want WinGate Mail to collect mail from can be configured and managed on the Collection tab, located at Monitoring > Email in the WinGate Management console.
The mail that is collected from each account, can then be placed in the message queue and delivered by the SMTP Delivery service according to a number of rules (configured on a per account basis). This makes this feature useful for sharing POP3 accounts, or catchall accounts (where all mail for a domain ends up in a single mailbox, usually on your ISP).
Creating a POP3 account for collection
You can configure a new remote POP3 account that the POP3 Collection service should collect mail for, by selecting Add account from the Tasks menu. This will open the Mail Collection properties, where you can configure the account details that the POP3 Collection service will use to retrieve mail from the remote POP3 server, and the regularity of how often it will perform the collection.
The Mail Collection properties for each account also have a Delivery tab so can you to specify how the SMTP Delivery service will treat the retrieved email for that account. Each email can be parsed to extract the original recipient address. The SMTP Delivery service can then either deliver it to that address, or to a corresponding local WinGate Mailbox if required. Alternatively you can set the SMTP Delivery service to deliver all retrieved mail from that account to a default email address.
Note
In order for WinGate to be able to perform POP3 collection, the POP3 Collection service must be installed and started. If the POP3 Collection service is not installed, then there will be an option to install it on the Collection tab when you open it.
