Remote WinGate Management connections

WinGate allows you to to access remote WinGate installations with the WinGate Management console. This can be achieved either by using the WinGate Management console from an existing WinGate installation, or by simply installing only the WinGate Management console to the computer where you wish to connect from.

The remote WinGate installation needs to be configured to accept remote WinGate Management connections. This is done by binding the appropriate network interface to the Remote Control Service on the remote WinGate installation, so it can listen for incoming WinGate Management connections.

To enable remote WinGate Management connection to a remote WinGate installation:

  1. On the remote WinGate installation :

    1. Open the WinGate Management console.
    2. Navigate to Control Panel > Services.
    3. From the Services panel, open the Service properties for the Remote Control Service.
    4. Select the Bindings tab.
    5. Below the Binding Policy pane, select the Add button to create a new binding policy. This will open the Dynamic Binding Policy dialog.

    6. Select the network interface that you want to connect to the Remote Control Service on. In this example selecting this policy option will allow the Remote Control service to bind the Local connection 192.168.0.20 (for management across the LAN).
    7. Click OK to add the Dynamic binding policy to the Bindings tab.
    8. On the Bindings tab of the Remote Control Service, check to see that the policy is present in the Binding policy pane.
    9. Click OK to exit the Remote Control service. When you reopen the Bindings tab the adapters included in the binding policy will now be displayed in the Adapter pane.
  2. On the Local server :

    1. Open the WinGate Management console. If you are connecting from a server that has WinGate installed, this can be done by double clicking the WinGate Engine Monitor found in the System tray on the Windows desktop.

Alternatively, if you are connecting from a computer that only has the WinGate Management console installed, you can click on the WinGate Management icon in the Quick Launch section of the Windows taskbar.

Both of these will open the Connect to WinGate dialog.

Enter the IP address of a remote WinGate installation that you wish to manage. In this example it will be 192.168.0.20 (as set in the Remote WinGate installation).

      Note

If the Remote Control Service on the remote installation of WinGate is set to listen on a different service port then the default (808) then you must specify this after entering the IP address that you will connect to. This is entered in a similar fashion to specifying a port in web URL when using a browser. That is:

IP address, immediately followed by a colon (:) and then the port number.

      e.g.

      192.168.0.20:4056

In the example above this would make a connection to 192.168.0.20 on port 4056

    2. Once you have entered the IP address of the WinGate installation you wish to connect to, you will be prompted with the Login information dialog where you can enter the user name and password of a user who has permission to log into the WinGate Management console on the remote WinGate installation.
