Open Relay Database

Use the Open Relay Database Settings to enter the domain name or IP address of an open relay database (ORDB) server that WinGate will use, in order to check that the IP address of the client attempting to send mail through WinGate is not on a open relay server list.

Open relays through remote mail servers are often used to send SPAM.

Open Relay Database Servers keep lists of known or suspected IP addresses that try to relay mail through unauthorized mail servers on the Internet. Here are some examples of ORDB servers:

  • inputs.orbz.org
  • outputs.orbz.org
  • relays.ordb.org
  • orbs.dorkslayers.com
  • dev.null.dk
  • relays.osirusoft.com
  • bl.spamcop.net
  • relays.visi.com

Note

The downside of using this feature is the possibility of your server rejecting legitimate (non-spam) email.

Use the Up and Down buttons to specify the order in which WinGate will check these servers.

Alternatively use the Allowed IPs pane to list IP addresses that WinGate will always allow mail for.

You can use basic Full-Text Searches against the page title and body to find matching articles. Use the following search modifiers to refine your query:

  • event management (no quotes) will find all pages containing the words "event" OR "management"
  • "event management" (with quotes) will find all pages containing the phrase "event management"
  • +event -management will find all pages containing the word "event", AND NOT the word "management"
