Connection
The Connection tab available in certain network services, allows you to set how that service will connect to any remote servers requested by the client, via an upstream proxy. This tab gives you control over the method used by the network service to make the connection. By default network services will attempt to make the connection directly.

To configure the Connection tab, simply specify the IP address of the upstream proxy server that this network service will use, and then select the appropriate type of proxy it will connect to.
-
Normal proxy
This will cause the network service to connect to the remote server specified in the clients request, via an upstream proxy server. This option is used if WinGate normally accesses the Internet via another proxy server. Many ISPs have HTTP proxies (usually on port 8080). Large networks may also have multilevel cascaded caching.
-
SOCKS4 server
This causes the network service to make the upstream connection via a specified SOCKS4 server.
-
HTTP proxy using CONNECT
This option uses SSL tunneling via the HTTP proxy specified.
If required, you will need to provide correct user credentials for WinGate to access the upstream proxy server port to make the connection.
Note
The WinGate Policy system has a Connection control policy item that can be used to determine the connection method when required during the policy processing.
When creating policies based on certain network service events (such as the ConnectRequest and ProxyRequest) you can place the Connection control policy item into the evaluation flow, to set how the connection for this particular instance of the service event will be made.
